Hiroaki Hanawa graduated from the Faculty of Business and Commerce at Keio University and joined JAFCO in April 1991. Since then, he has been engaged in venture capital investments for 25 years and has been involved in more than 30 IPOs of portfolio companies. In addition to IPOs, he led exits in several corporate revitalization projects, including turnarounds after company splits. He has been a member of the Structured Investment Division since 2017 and is currently mainly in charge of incubation and growth buyout investments.

In buyout investment operations, I am often directly involved in managing portfolio companies and always strive to remain fair in decision-making. Still, as someone in that position, I feel it’s important to be mindful of my own biases. I hope to continue working with humility, placing a strong emphasis on fairness. Since the outbreak of COVID-19, I’ve gradually shifted my private activities from the sea to the forest. The sea is vast and refreshing, while the forest’s deep greenery soothes my soul.
